What was it like to be an evacuee?
One little boy called Clifford thought being evacuated was very exciting, but that it was also strange and frightening. Also that most of the mothers did not go away with their children so the children were confused about where they were being sent or who they were going to live with. Some of the kids found being evacuated miserable and others found that they had many fantastic adventures. Before the war started lots of children were living in towns and cities so they had never been to the country side and were absolutely amazed when they saw all the cows and the sheep for the first time in their life. It would have been a huge for Clifford to go back to the city after living in the beautiful countryside for ages.
What was the diet of the people during the war?
Most of the food had to be used sparingly and people needed rationing coupons to get the food they wanted. Often people queued for hours not knowing if the food they wanted was in the shop. As fresh food became harder to get people were given powdered food like milk, eggs and potatoes. People also ate margarine for the first time, and then new foods called Spam and Corned beef were eaten. None of these were as healthy as the foods they replaced.
What was it like in the Blitz during 1940?
The appearance of German bombers in the skies over London during the afternoon of September 7, 1940 indicated a planned shift in Hitler’s attempt to subdue Great Britain. The beginning of the Blitz was of September 7, 1940. The Blitz was a period of intense bombing of London and other cities that continued until the following May. For the next 57 days in a row, London was bombed either during the day or at night. Fires consumed many portions of the city. Residents looked for shelter wherever they could find it and many fled to the Underground stations that sheltered as many as 177,000 people during the night. In the worst single incident, 450 were killed when a bomb destroyed a school being used as an air raid shelter. Londoners and the world were introduced to a new weapon of terror and destruction in the arsenal of twentieth century warfare. The Blitz ended on May 11, 1941 when Hitler called off the raids in order to move his bombers east in preparation for Germany’s invasion of Russia.

As the cyclone approaches Rowville
Everyone runs inside.
From the rain the hail and the dust,
You really cannot hide.
The winds are starting to get rough
Like a grizzly big brown bear
With claws like knives and teeth like swords.
Its giving you a scare.
The winds are howling like a woof
And the hail is just like golf balls.
The house is shaking like a quake
And the girls are hugging their dolls.
Now its something quiet,
So quiet that I cannot hear the howling wind and golf balls
Crashing from God’s rear
Everything is over, the storm has gone away
Nothing can remove the path, that the storm has left today.

Where & When did it originate? Female Genital cutting originated in Ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, Rome, pre-Islamic Arabia and Tsarist Russia. Up until the mid-20th century, some physicians in the United States wrongly performed the procedure. Practices involving the cutting of female genitals have been found throughout history in many cultures, but there is no ultimate evidence documenting when or why this ritual began. This ritual that was invented should be stop and all female genital cutting should be in the past and it should stay there.

Practices involving the cutting of female genitals have been found throughout history in many cultures, but there is no ultimate evidence documenting when or why this ritual began. This ritual that was invented should be stop and all female genital cutting should be in the past and it should stay there.
Why Is It Performed?
Female genital cutting is done for many compound, poorly understood reasons. In some cultures, the procedure is based on love and the desire to protect young women because it is viewed as a culturally normal practice that has social meaning for females. Some societies support FGC because they think of it as “good tradition” or an essential ritual of path to womanhood. In many cultures that practice FGC, a woman achieves credit and financial security through marriage and childbearing, and FGC is often a requirement for qualifying for wifehood. Therefore, FGC affords economic and social protection. FGC is considered an important part of gender identity, which explains why many women and family members identify with and defend the practice. In cultures where FGC is practiced, men often control and enable FGC by paying for their daughters to undergo the practice. They also may refuse to marry women who have not undergone FGC. These reasons for FGC do not give good reason for its practice. Whatever the explanation, the end result of FGC is that a female is subjected to an unnecessary, painful and health-compromising procedure.
